While quite a few of them are cringe-worthy (there’s about two dozen “to thine own self be true“‘s in miscellaneous old-english font, a number of mis-spelled cliches, and more Kurt Vonnegut than even my sixteen-year-old superfan former self would have been able to handle) the collection of literary-themed tattoos at contrariwise.org is pretty durn rad. Maybe I’ve just got trompe l’oeil on my mind from this weekend’s adventures in Chanel temp tats fading to some nasty black smudges on my wrist, but this woman (1950’s circus sideshow tattoo lady, apparently?) and her TATTOO BRA sort of take the cake. [via Indecorous Taste]
LINGUISTICS TATTOOS. Oh boy. Why had THIS (namely, IPA and other FUN STUFF LIKE THAT! I hope some of my old college roommates are reading this and have terrible flashback memories of me sitting at my desk chanting words over and over again to transcribe them: ‘kitten. kitten. kitten. kitten. is that ʔ or t??’) not yet occurred to me as a goldmine of faux-hyperintellectual-brouhaha body art inspiration?!?! And a whole gallery of nerdy awesome science tattoos. Via LanguageLog, obvi.
