One of the unexpected benefits of going home to visit family for holidays (hint: this involves New Jersey) is that suburban clothing stores are so far behind “fashion” that, being 15 or so years behind, they’re accidentally spot-on — like when I’m out with my mother (should you ever question my beanpole-ness) and find floor-length black skirts a la the 1990’s at large/Rick Owens/Aquascutum in the old ladies “petites” suits section right next to some melon/sherbert orange polyblend twinsets.
I think it still runs the risk of looking a bit too much like my third grade art teacher (all I need is a lumpy pea-soup-green cardigan, dangly metal earrings, and a ton of wooded beaded bracelets!!) and it might be a bit tooooo 90’s with the cropped drape top (but oh, I’m tempted) — but I was quite pleased at how well it worked with the flats and leather jacket for a breezy Sunday afternoon.
skirt “charter club classics” lolololol
