Today’s vaguely educational timesuck linkdump: A while back Caite turned me on to Scouting NY, a film location scout’s blog about all the unusual things he comes across here in the city, like the haunting memorial in the photo above, speakeasy bowling alleys, strange architectural details (such as wizards, and rats), half-excavated old villages on Governor’s Island, and gyms with tin ceilings. One of the more fun features, New York You’ve Changed, revolves around locations in the city from classic films, like Rosemary’s Baby — which points out all kinds of delightful continuity and location errors as well as fun now-and-then comparison images. SO MUCH AWESOME.
