GPOY time! The ever-fabulous Hilary and I last night at Ghe20 Gothik.
I totally wish I had a picture of that whole outfit because it was AWESOME (trashy v-neck Jen-Kao-esque leotard from AA, Yigal Azrouel zip skirt, ripped tights, s2a wedge boots) BUT we will take advantage of this to address one of the other questions I get asked frequently, which is about my makeup.
I feel guilty about how much I love makeup sometimes, for all the infinite miscellaneous reasons we can feel uncomfortable with it, from oft-offensive naming strategies to what it says about beauty standards to the amount of money and time I spend on it.  I console myself with the fact that I’m usually not very reliant on it - most days I wear only mascara and either red lipstick or a scrawl of black eyeliner - and mostly use it, uh, for fun, because, let’s face it, I AM STILL PLAYING DRESS-UP ALL OF THE TIME AND JUST REALLY REALLY LOVE IT.  Anyone who has had to sit around waiting for me to finish gleefully putting my face on before going out (this usually involves blaring music and drinking cheap wine and also dancing around in my socks, no, I will never grow up) can probably attest to how much, bizarrely, I love the near-costume-y masquerade-esque aspect of it.
So, here: I’ve posted similar looks before, but lately I’ve been eschewing all the black smudging in favor of a shimmery pale white or champagne eyeshadow, a dark or black lip (here, it’s Mac Film Noir), and, more recently, exaggerated thick graphic eyebrows. (An angled eyeliner brush helps keep the lines on both the brows and the lips sharp, and Chanel Matte Lumiere foundation evens out skin for contrast. To the point where I look sort of creepy and plastic under camera flash BUT THAT’S OKAY.)
